It seems that everyday new computer online games come out. The problem gamers are facing now is which online
game to choose from? This is the reason of this online games directory website; to help you sort them out.
I remember back in 1983 when nobody had that problem! Indeed, when I got my first computer there was no online gaming at
all. Thinking of it, there were not too many regular computer games on the market either. We were not even talking or
thinking about online games! You can't miss what you don't know. Microsoft was in it's infancy. I wish I had bought some of
their stocks.
Yes, back then, what we could call today the prehistoric age of computer gaming was not very much user friendly. Indeed you
had to load a game from a cassette player (yes I said a cassette player) and we hoped for the best. Most of the time the download from the
cassette player failed. It took many tries and when we got lucky it took a while to load, hey it was a big 4k program after all! My
total computer memory was 16k... but would you believe we were hypnotized and excited by the high technology behind it.
Computer Online Games - Nowadays
Today we almost stopped counting the mega bytes, the pixels and the memory, who cares... we are mega everything and mega whatever is
cheap. But you know what? We had as much fun back then with few puny kilobytes than today with tons of them. Today we are kind of spoiled
with new technologies coming out month after month after month. You buy a brand spanking new mega everything top of the line computer, a top
dog monster actually but months down the road the monster will turn into a regular pooch then few months later it will morph into
a poor puppy that can hardly keep up with the fast moving new top dog computers behemoths... yes, such is life in the fast lane on the
internet super highways where computers live a short exciting life and die fast. You can't even count the loads of "high tech
has-been" road kills on each sides of the superhighway. Get out of the way slow poke or die!
Then one day in 1995, a new bright world emerged from
the ocean of the dark lonely world of my computer desk. A new dawn. I remember clearly the first day I got my first modem. A big heavy
cumbersome lighting fast 300 baud modem! The beast was noisy and slow but it was fantastic because it opened up my small lonely
computer world into a vast infinite internet super world by connecting me to a huge lifeline that will soon circumverate the globe.
The online computer gaming era had just begun! Whoo hoo it was a blast! I forgot to eat for a while and sleep
became optional.
ComputerOnlineGames - Back Then
But we were not completely out of the woods. Back in 1995, it was hard to find computeronlinegames and online gamers for that matter, but I
managed. Ultima online was on the horizon and Everquest would come out only in 1999 to change the way we play. Few online communities
started to spring up with bad connections and overloaded servers (hmm sounds familiar). Disconnects and reboots were part of the game. We
complain today for small gliches, pfft! Back in those days you were more than happy just to be online! We
were savouring every minutes of that unstable, slow and buggy connection of the still wet-behind-the-ears internet
gaming world. Yes every minute connected to the internet was a online gamer's dream.
Then after a while it became not so amazing, a bit like a shuttle launch, we got used to it and it became the norm to be connected. But
people wanted more, a lot more. The internet had created a monster. Everyone became a Megavorus Speedmaximus of the huge
Thechnovorus family, the worst of his kind. That online gamer specie eats up megabytes like it is going out of style, and what we
called speed today was called crawling the next month. The whole planet wanted to be connected with faster connections and
faster computers!
I started playing with people across many time zones. Wow! That was unheard of. That too became the norm in no time. Then one day it happened.
The sun was never to set down on the online gaming world ever again. The global giant would never sleep no more. And
never again the online gaming world was going to go back into the black dark ages on the non global connectivity!
Computer Online Games - It Is Never Enough
More ! More! we want more, were chanting the players of the now small global village known as Earth. And more they did received. But was
it enough? No sir! Online players have an inextinguishable thirst for new gaming thrills. The adrenalin rush is their new drug,
complemented with tons of caffeine to help them make it to the next level... just one more... just one more level and then, yes then I will
go to sleep...zzz. Yeah right, three levels later, with blurry eyes my darn cleric that I was playing was still needed by the
group of hard core players, which are playing with 3 time zone difference than me. Darn eastern time zone! It makes you the party
pooper of the group. "Sorry I have to leave guys, it's 3:00 am here on the east coast and I have to work in the morning. ARGHHH! Responded
the guild. Nope, my poor needed cleric can't leave the group... The morning came, and the online player, that I am and sometime hate to
be, managed to crawl into bed just to hear few minutes later the alarm go off.
RISE AND SHINE! it's 6:00 am and this is going to be a great sunny day! Blasts the darn clock radio with an excited annoying
happy voice.
You take a mental note to log on to another server just to get a break from that blood thirsty guild that won't let you go. Yes, the poor
player that I am will change server just to find a bit of free time. Then one night, on the new server he'll make friend with a lovely
woman warrior that needs help. Later on, after playing 10 newbie easy levels, which translates in few hours of bloody battles, she'll ask
the life savior cleric."You want to join our guild? We could use a great healer as yourself". The cleric hypnotized by the green eyes of the
warrior can hear himself answer without hesitation "Sure! I would love to".
And so begins another chapter in the never ending cycles of the online gamers...
Enjoy the directory and hopefully you'll find a computer online game that you will like. But remember, it's all about fun and friendship.
