Who would have thought of buying EQ plat or selling EQ plat back in 1999 when Everquest was introduced to the public?

When I started to play EverQuest I did what most everyone else was doing; killing rats, bats and snakes to get a bit of money, actually it was copper, the lowest denomination in the game. The far away goal was to get eventually some platinum or  eq plat to buy some nice items.

I took a long time to get your first plat I can tell you that! I still remember to this day when I managed to get my first plat. I felt like the richest newbie in the city of "Qeynos"! (Sony spelled backwards with eq at the end, clever) You had to buy food and water and repair your equipment and if you had any plat left you were happy to upgrade your armor or weapon.

It was a long haul in EverQuest indeed, but nobody seemed to complain much. After all EQ was a new breakthrough in the online gaming genre and we were just happy to play it. But, some people were busy people in the real world and did not have much time to grind and to get to the next level with poor equipment. Some people wanted to be twinked and be strong even while being a newbie.

What to do? Well you could ask a friend with higher levels to help you out to level your own avatar, if you were lucky. Business people didn't have time for that either. Solution? You just go and buy some platinum (plat) or gold with real money and then you could go on your merry way to buy whatever armor and weapon you needed without much restriction. So a lot of people would start buying plat. The economy is always driven by demand, in the real world or not, same rules applied here in EverQuest. So some people started selling plat to fill a ever increasing demand.

EverQuest Plat Tips

A parallel economy was born! Some would even advertise on eBay to sell their wares or plat. EQ plat for sale! was the new fad and they filled entire pages on some website. Prices started to decrease as more and more people were offering to sell platinum at a cheaper price. Ever Quest plat was becoming a commodity in a fantasy world. Everyone was advertising the cheapest plat. Competition is good in a way. Later on your could buy a lot of plat for few dollars. You could dress up your character with top of the line armor with fewer and fewer dollars.

But many people didn't like it. Why? There were the real hard core gamers and the other ones, people with no game experience that would come in to play in a group, dressed like a killing machine just to find out minutes in the game that the big mean warrior didn't know how to play the game. Those twinks we well equipped indeed but many had no game experience whatsoever. Buying plat is one thing, playing a good game is another thing! So a message to people buying plat; learn to play the game before grouping.

Some people and even accounts were banned because of that parralelle economy. You have to remember that Ever Quest was the first to be confronted with this new type of economy. Buying plat or selling plat nowadays is a lot more common and you can find the same thing going on in other online games as well.

EverQuest Plat Advice

I believe this phenomenon of buying and selling plat is here to stay. Some hard core player don't like it, I understand. But there is other players that wont put the commitment of the long grindy road to do whatever has to be done to get that top level or to get that fantastic weapon. Nope, they will look for someone selling plat in Ever Quest or on some website and they will buy that plat needed to buy what they need. Time is money, they don't have the time but they have the money.

Is it okay? It all depends how you look at it. You could decide to paint your own house by yourself or you could hire someone to do it for some amount of money. It's the same thing in Ever Quest buying and selling plat. Some just don't have the time or the commitment to do it for whatever reason.

So, buy your plat or sell your plat on EverQuest, but the main thing I believe is to enjoy the game and making friends along the way.
